Kuala Lumpur Recommendations (I need your help!)

Ting Ting and I are headed to Kuala Lumpur for one week with Chuchu and would love your recommendations! If you have any local spots that you love, please let us know. We’re looking for super tasty and busy locations in all food categories.ย We’re looking forย deep, local, less fancy places. More aunties/uncles serving the food, more action, and more off the popular path. We really want to cover the 3 main cuisines very well: Malay, Indian, and Chinese.

We really need delicious Malay places ๐Ÿ™‚ Kampung Baru?

The Crazier the better!

I crave for the sambal fried chicken at Ming Tien food court in Taman Megah , Petaling Jaya, if you can head out there, just outside of KL. There’s a night market happening every Sunday night there too which will give you a good opportunity to try out many of the local meals. Otherwise there’s plenty of places to check out in Petaling Street and beyond in KL. Let me know if you need more help or info. Sorry just got back from a trip to Russia and Beijing. Would love to hand over some goodies for you to take back and try.

    Trevor,
You must visit a Peranakan restaurant for Nyonya food. The best I had was in Malacca though. Must tries are Ayam buah keluak, Ayam pong Teh, Grago omelette.
Bah Kut Teh and satay are must tries too. And don’t forget the Chendol dessert drink – it is coconut milk sweetened by brown palm sugar. It has Pandan-flavoured torpedo shaped gelatinous bits swimming in it. The best I had was in Penang but they might have a branch in KL. Need KL folks to recommend the best places for all the above as I am from Singapore.

Kedai Koon Kee Wantan Mee – Petaling Street

It’s worth going to Petaling Street to check out the nice busy bustling areas of KL. But always watch for your bags.

Ramly Burger – a chain of street burgers you can find in many places in KL. Greasiest burger ever, but it’s so worth it!
