  10. Hello Trevor,

It was good to see you at the Maharagama market today. My name is Antony. I follow your vlogs on youtube channel.

Wanted to reccomend a Jaffna style rice and curry place in Colombo. It is called Yaal and it is in Bambalapitiya. They are famous for their crab curry and I love their fried fish as well. They also have parboiled rice which you don’t normally find in Sri Lanka.

You should also try cheese Kottu from the original Pilawoos near Durdans hospital or Naanas in Galle Face Green. I however recommend the Pilawoos over Nanas.

  33. Hey Guys

I’m a massive foodie, been watching your journey for sometime on YouTube

Since you guys are coming to my home country I had to comment.

Firstly I would love to invite you guys to My place for traditional clay pot cooked home food. In Srilanka our main dishes go with rice and traditionally cooked in clay pots. Most dishes also contain a lot of lush coconut milk. Our main source of protein is seafood and have tranditional ways of cooking and preserving from pickled fish to banana leaf wrapped rice parcels.

Fruit is another great factor we are home to the worlds smelliest fruit aka Durian to favourites of the lychee family such as rambutan.

The best street markets and restaurants are based in the two largest cities, Colombo and Kandy. There are few rustic gems and new spots that serve great culinary dishes. Such as Ministry of Crab.

Let me know, I can certainly send you more information or even give you guys a tour round and even get my grandma to cook you guys some wonderful dishes . I ll be in Srilanka for another 5 weeks since I reside in London.

  34. The private villas that you can stay in usually have Michellin starred chefs. Too many to mention but many are located on the coast around Galle and Mirissa.
Amanwella and Amangalla are good, 5 star places.
In Colombo there is a big casual dining scene. I would recommend Ministry of Crab as one place but there are many.
    https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Restaurant_Review-g293962-d2477739-Reviews-Ministry_of_Crab-Colombo_Western_Province.html

One of the best meals I had was in Uga Residence in Colombo, the tuna tartare was excellent.

There are quite a lot of food courts, so the basement of Majestic City has one for example. http://www.majesticcity.lk

There are loads of street food stalls all serving similar food called ‘short eats’; tuna cutlets/ balls, parota rolls with mutton, beef, fish in, patties (small cornish pasties) with a variety of ingredients. Then string hoppers and egg hoppers. Egg hoppers is one of my favourites.

My wifes family is in Ja-Ela, near the airport, if you want them to show you some places nearby there. (This place is decent https://goo.gl/maps/EvP49H63VoQ2) But there are so many of these stalls all around the island, they mostly cook at dinner time only, you just need to go somewhere residential and ask the locals where the better ones are.

In terms of fruit mangosteens and rambutan are good but you have probably seen them in places like Singapore.

There are a lot of vegetables that I have only seen there like bitter gourd. Plantain curry is very nice. Cashew nut curry. Fried aubergines as well. They have a dish with chopped parsley, onion and coconut, its a side dish called Parsley sambol or Gotukola Sambol.

Check out all the places on sites like tripadvisor there are loads of them in Colombo.

  54. hi trevor plz go sizzling dehiwala latter the food comes sizzling and smoking, sit back and take in the aroma until the sizzling settles, allowing time for the sauces to penetrate the food, further enriching its flavor. really a good luxury resturant

  55. Hey
love your videos. Try spending your tour between colombo, jaffna, galle and kandy. Try the galle face green for street food. In galle check out the fort for sri lankan fusion food.
enjoy your time in sri lanka.

  56. In Kandy, I would recommend Soya Centre for street food. Jasmine song for authentic sri Lankan chinese food (definitely get the hot butter cuttlefish!!).
In Colombo, try Pilawoos on Galle road for street food. Kotthu roti and iced milo there are perfect for dinner.

Hope you enjoy Lanka. Looking forward to the video!!
    Cheers,
    Danu

  58. From Galle Face green street food (Nana’s), you need to explore the Dutch Hospital area for a bit of fine dinning – Ministry of Crab, Colombo Fort Cafe etc. For Kottu Roti (since you are spicy food fan, recommend going with extra chili paste and gravy of choice) you have to check out Pilawoos in Bambalpitya. For an authentic Sri Lanka rice and curry experience I recommend ThunaPaha on the Edge. Look forward to your adventure in Lanka on YouTube!

  59. Hi Trevor & Ting! I just found your channel and I am obsessed – just subscribed!! It’s been awhile since I’ve been to Sri Lanka but I always think about ‘The Sizzle’ in Colombo 3. They have a few other locations displayed on http://www.thesizzle.lk where you can also find a menu.
I hope you enjoy your trip to Sri Lanka! Can’t wait to watch the video! 🙂

I’m a Sri Lankan and I’m so happy that you’re finally doing a food tour in my beautiful island. Sri Lanka is a very beautiful island and there is a very good reason why the former British, Dutch and Portuguese colonies called it the pearl of the Indian Ocean.

They provide good restaurants in Colombo and outside.

Two things you must try is the Sri Lankan rice and curry, kotthu Rotti, Lamprais. Lamprais is a Portuguese dish if I’m not mistaken. This can be found in Dutch burghers union building in Thunmulla.

  80. Hi Trevor,

I would recommend for you to go to the lagoon in Colombo. This is where you can get the best seafood and within close to 150 varieties of seafood being cooked.

Attached below is the pricing, Opening hours and location. But before you go just double check with the restaurant for pricing as I’m not that sure if it is still the same price and make a reservation before you go.

This place is open from 12pm to 2:30pm in the afternoon and from 7pm to 12am at night.

    Price for 2: LKR 6000

Location: the restaurant is located within the five star hotel
    Cinnamon Grand.

    Hope this helps you

    Zaina

  81. Hi Trevor and Ting, I am so excited that you guys are coming down to Sri Lanka. Literally doing a happy dance right now! I really enjoy your videos and am such a fan.  I honestly don’t know where to start with recommendations. I will drop a separate message with all my recommendations.

There’s  so many different street dishes that you really  HAVE to try but there’s also the traditional food which is so rich in culture and heritage and inspired by the many ethnicities that co-exist in Sri lanka – and I have to tell you, that every  ethnic style is different! There’s amazing Sinhalese food, tamil food, burgher, Malay, Moor , ‘Sri lankan Chinese’ and  even variations of each! For example, you may eat rice and curry at a traditional Sinhalese household which will taste entirely different at a Tamil, Muslim or Burgher household; mainly since the style of cooking and use of spices differs according to our traditions and heritage as well as the way we eat it.  In other words, we often eat similar food but with our own twists.
However, I have to mention that each area in Sri Lanka (geographically) has a different style of cooking as well. Jaffna (North) and Matara (South) cuisine being the spiciest in general…to traditional village food in Anuradhapura, Matale, Negombo to well everywhere else.

You’d find that the food from the North tastes totally different from that of the South, East, West or Central regions. I guess this is true in every country you visit.

My family and I would love to host you both for a day or two with accommodation, home-cooked Sri Lankan meals and give you a unique experience at our family run home stay based in Galaha, which is about an hour’s drive through the mountains from Kandy, the Central Hill capital of Sri Lanka.

We’re a traditional, food obsessed,  Moor family and would love to share our home, time  and love for food with you both! From the flavours, the experience to the way we eat together as a family…there’s so much I would LOVE to share. I am also quite competent with most styles of cooking inspired by the various ethnicities that co-exist in Sri Lanka. My dad is a fully fledged hotelier with so much experience in food and beverage (in Sri Lanka and abroad), my mum is a fantastic home cook and I am a passionate cook, gourmet and hotelier myself. Hospitality is our forte.

Galaha is just beautiful. It’s a little rural village, studded with tea estates and an amazing unspoilt view. The temperatures are much cooler than the other parts of Sri Lanka though not as cold as Nuwara Eliya. The surrounding is tranquil and flourishes with nature. We live in a purpose built bungalow, with spacious rooms, on an organic estate, with organic tea cultivation, bordering a pine forest and even have a little private lake, with organic fish.

Galaha is also very close to Loolecondera which is the first ever tea plantation (the first Ceylon tea was grown here) in Sri Lanka (the first tea plant is still alive!). Tea was first cultivated by Sir James Taylor and his estate is a must visit! There’s lush tea and an amazing view point called Taylor’s Seat. On a good sunny day, you can be assured by the most breathtaking views. It’s within close proximity to where we live and we’d love to take you there.

There’s also the Ceylon Tea Museum in Hanthana (a few miles away from where we live) if you’re interested.

I’d like to arrange an entire local, homely, moor inspired, culinary experience, if you’d like to come visit us and be a part of the family!   I could even arrange a cooking session if you’re into that.  Please let me know when you’ll be here and if you’re interested, maybe I can drop some pictures of the location  so you can see if it would actually be worth your while. Looking forward to meeting you both! Keep Travelling!

  82. In Colombo DO NOT MISS Beach Wadiya, seafood restaurant which is sure to give an Incredible experience. All the seafood is fresh-no menu, the waiter will bring out the catch of the day and make recommendations. Would recommend to anyone looking for great, fresh seafood and 5 star service.
Address: BEACH WADIYA, 2 Station Ave, Wellawatta, Colombo, Western 00600; Website: http://www.beachwadiya.com/home.php…

  89. Hey Trev,
As a big fan of yours and as someone who was inspired by you to eat street food every time I travel as if there is no tomorrow, I feel obliged to tell you at least a few tips about Colombo. You might not find a vibrant diversity of street food as you see in India or in China for example. But you will still find a variety of curries (mainly served with rice) that are spicy to “your level”, rich, and delicious. The comment section is filled with nice suggestions. I’ll just point out some don’ts that haven’t been mentioned. You might want to try “kola kenda”, which literally means green porridge. It is a healthy breakfast beverage/porridge many Sri Lankans drink (or eat?) and made with different kinds of leaves (there is a version using curry leaves as well). I’ve included some good kolakenda joints in this map.

    https://drive.google.com/open?id=1R-3ceg-_7wRaQEY-7lHWXgyVseRvMQO3&usp=sharing

I’ve also included some street food places. Especially Farook Nana’s is a joint that very well suits your taste!

I’d advice you to avoid street side “Chinese restaurants” because most of the time they are not Chinese. It’s just chicken fried rice with some chili paste 😛

I’ll keep adding places to the map. Also, let me know if you’re there in January. Because I’ll be there for three weeks and I might be able to invite you to a homemade meal.

  90. Colombo galle face beach street food you will find many different type of foods and snacks dont forget to try kottu rotti one of the famous dish and I would recommend city of kandy around white house building there is a night market for street food will be open everyday after 4pm . 93. Hi Trevor!
I watch your videos regularly and it got me to think of food in a different way.

You must try the Fish Ambul Thiyal (Sour fish curry) and the Fish Jaadi (sort of like pickled fish). They are very popular in the southern cities like Galle and Matara. Kotthu is a must have in SL. You can get it in many variations.

If you walk around a bit at night, you can find vendors selling snacks in small carts. They are cheap and reasonably good. Galle face and Hulftsdorp (Colombo 12) are the places you could find these kinds of snacks.(Mostly at night)

You are always welcome to our house in Kegalle. Come and join us for a home meal.
    Hit me up on FB.

Hope you have a great time here in Sri Lanka.

  94. You must go to Hotel De Buhari and try there biriyani. They been making biriyani long before I was born and they have an unique flavour in their biriyani which you will never get at any other restaurant.

    Hotel De Buhari
    15 Panchikawatta Rd, Colombo 01000

  95. Travelers Bar at the Galle Face Hotel – great for sundowners (5-7PM) but not a night-time bar.

Must go to Beach Wadiya for a low-key, local, shack by the beach lunch. Seafood!

Nihonbashi for Japanese – they do a great wagyu grilled beef and super sashimi. And Ministry of Crab of course. Order the chilled butter crab (need a 1KG crab for 3 people) a day in advance when you book your table. They don’t serve drinks between 2-4PM in Colombo, even if you’re inside the restaurant, so reach early for lunch.

  96. Make sure you visit the North of the island to Jaffna and surrounding areas which are predominantly tamil culture food. Try not to seclude your self in the south are the touristy spots

  97. Hi mate, I’m Nasar from Galle Sri Lanka. Living England. I highly recommend in Colombo if you looking best find dining, Cinnamon Grand is best as a highly skilled 5* experience. Included 10 restaurant’s I promise you’ll should minimum visit the website. If it’s in Galle, (old Dutch fort) Lucky Fort Restaurant, Crepe-ology, Pedlar’s Inn Cafe, A Minute by Tuk Tuk’s are the best. If it’s in Kandy, habarana resort.:) also I can arrange some great Sri Lankan home cook food in Galle, as guest for free of charge on my family home. Also my brother in low is a Gem business man, hope he’ll help with tourists areas. Please contact me for further information via email. Many thanks,
    Nasar

  98. I’m Sri Lankan and would start off by naming some things to try that I haven’t seen in the comments so far. Would definitely recommend trying Lamprais, it’s one of my favourites and perfect for a filling meal all in one. Another great “street food” item would be roast paan (a type of bread prepared in a unique way that I’m yet to find anywhere else). Some curries I’d recommend as well are Cos Atta (Jackfruit seed) curry and Cashew curry. Desserts wise I’d recommend trying wattalapan, which is a classic. I could go on forever listing foods to try because in Sri Lanka you won’t be disappointed with the variety!

Some of my favourite places to go to in Colombo are Raheema and Pilauwoos, amongst many others, but these are two places I used to love going to after school with my friends. I’d also recommend going to a Perrera and Sons and trying some short eats.

I’ve been following your videos for around 3 years now and it’s making me extremely excited to know that you’ll be visiting us! I really hope you enjoy the visit.

  99. Warmly welcome to srilanka….you should go “mirissa harbour ” morning fish market in south of srilanka..if you want to taste srilankan cuisine please come to our home..warmly welcomed…

  100. Hey Trevor and Ting! I’m so excited that you guys are going to Sri Lanka, my family is from there but we live in Boston. There is amazing street food in Sri Lanka! Try kottu rotti, vade, string hoppers, appa, and the many many curries that we have to offer. Don’t just stay in the capital, go to the southern coast where you’ll be able to find awesome seafood! The crab, fried fish, and hot buttered cuttlefish are very popular. The most famous fish market is the Negambo Fish Market which is on the east coast. If you go to Nuwara Eliya you can visit famous tea factories and try Sri Lankan tea. My personal favorite is the belihuloya rest house which has a beautiful view of mountains with a waterfall a few minutes a way where many people swim. The food there is pretty good you can order many curries there. In central Sri Lanka you can visit the wildlife sanctuaries where you can go on safaris and see elephants. Go to as many places as you can because there is truly so much to see! Also I highly recommended stopping at the fruit stands which you can essentially find in every part of the country! Try the mangoes, rambutan, mangosteen, durian, and king coconut. Also be sure to stop by tea shops that sell “short eats” which are Sri Lankan savory pastries, often filled with potatoes, fish, and spices. I hope you the both of you have a wonderful time in SL??! Can’t wait to see the videos!

  101. Please visit Kerala (South India) after Sri Lankan tour. There are so many vloggers in Kerala. They’ll be able to help you.

  102. Hi Trevor and Ting!! Im Aviral, currently in Hyderabad and hailing from Lucknow, India.
I just saw your latest video and got to know that you need updates regarding street food and full spectrum cuisine of Sri Lanka. Though I haven’t been to Sri Lanka, I surely know that Sri Lanka is a beautiful place to visit and eat.
Being an island, seafood is abundant and huge variety of fish and shrimp is common in every part of Sri Lanka. I must recommend you to contact Peter Kuruvita, who is a brilliant chef at a Sydney based restaurant and hosts a tv show(which depicts the sri lankan cuisine aptly) at FOX Life channel here in India. Peter has Sri Lankan ethnicities as his father is a Sri Lankan. So he has spent a lot of time in Sri Lanka and being a chef he knows the best markets and food places around Sri Lanka. Im sure that he would be of great help to you. That being said, this is his website link. You can check him out at http://www.peterkuruvita.com.
I love your work as how deep you go to search for the best food in each city you go to. Thats what makes you different from the others. I hope I could be of help to you and one day wish to travel around the world just to experience the different cuisines and to understand how different cultures, geographies and ethnicities affect the cuisine of that place. Because food is love, food is life.
And yeah, you taught me some chinese as well. Haha. Tai Hao Le!!
    Thanks and keep going!!

  103. In SW India there is a small stuffed and dry chilly, very good flavor but very spicy. Even though we live in Canada, I would like to get some of these dried chilly sent if possible.I love your youtube food tours and will continue to enjot them.

  104. You must visit Kandy, alot of tea production there, also a very nice ice cream place that is loved by everyone. Something along the lines of Fried Icecream (make the icecream from scratch upon order, so it takes 5-10 minutes per order!!).

*As a luxury range authentic Sri Lankan restaurant ‘Nuga gama’ of cinnamon grand will be a must to cover. Best to visit for a weekend dinner.
    * A visit to Galle face green in a evening will help to cover ‘Kottu’ the most famous street food of the country along with isso wade.

The small town Ambeypussa on way to Kandy has 2-3 famous Sri Lankan sweet shops (can cover Sri Lankan sweets like Konda kavum, halapa, kokis, aluwa ets). Further on way to Kandy after sweet shops, you find small shops with Sri Lankan fruits (mangosteen, durian, rambutan, jambola, etc). Around Kandy you can make a visit to one of the famous tea places.

So,so many places we ate at but can not recall the names of eatery’s as there are so many.
We just randomly picked places and I can say we never had a bad meal.
Go to sigiriya, amazing place and do a village tour, bullock ride first, then catamaran trip and then to a local village home . That was the most amazing meal we had, also a local tree house restaurant on the Main Street, that was Amazing too.
    Enjoy your trip.

  114. Hey Trevor,

AVM cream house: great juice and smoothies. Perfect after a spicy khottu.
Nandana tea factory: owner gives tour of garden and a great tea tasting.

In Colombo there is some nice street food in the foodcourts in the malls.

  118. Hello Trevor, when will you be in Sri Lanka? I wil also be travelling there in February. Will love to have the chance to meet you after watching all your videos.

  119. Hey, i am from Sri lanka. Try out a website called yamu.lk its made for sirlankan foods and reviews on them, like the whole deal of foods available super cheap to super expensive.

I’d recommend you to try out “isso” dedicated just for prawns, “ministry of crabs” for crab. “Manhattan fish market”. “Isso vadai” a street food delicacy you could get at Galle face beach. You can see al type of street food at galle face beach .
Go for kotthu , there’s a food truck called “ROAD HOUSE” they are the best they know what they are doing.Try out hoppers or aapa in sinhala ,it comes plain, with egg or with milk.Try it out with classic sinhala sambol sort of thing .Those two make a pair.

Afterwards theres sinhala traditional food stores all over colombo “bath(but) kade” its super super cheap but most of them offers really tasty traditonal old sinhala foods its sort of fast for lunch. Try out majestic city food court , crescat, and food court in liberty building, they have places just for sinhala foods. Try out sinhala festive shorteats.

Then move into indian foods which are also quite good here srilanka does have tamils. Try out maharaja palace ,amrith, and amaravathi they are my daily preference for indian foods. Go for pittu, string hoppers they make good with curries .

You can never beat indian vegetarian , so i recommend you to try out shanmugas they are gooood.Try paneer curries they are sort of tofu but indian version, they are a must.

Now you have done sooo much of chinese food yes i’ve watched em all but still just try out “chinese dragon” and “peach valley”.I am recomending u, pushing you to try out hot butter cuttlefish from chinese dragon they do it best and its delicious just try it out.

If u never had muslim foods i want you to try out this buriyani shop called “aasife buryani” and try out the buryani and try out their chicken lolipop .They are great. Then try out a dessert from muslim culture called wattalapam. Its worth it. “Arabian knights” as well.

Finally i’d reccommend you to two worth it places for buffet .So “rajabojan” they serve best best buffets for srilankan foods u want everything then go for it. Then there’s a buffet at ShangriLa hotel ,they have indian ,italian, chinese, srilankan and british cuisine. Now this shangrila buffet is what i’d tell u is the winner of all buffet.(i think the restaurant at shangrila is called onetable).

So hey Trevor James ,listen , i love your content like how you express yourself about the foods.I started to watch your videos an year ago and i still am. I am still sort of studying with no money around to eat up as i wish at new places,so i make up for it through your videos and i did learn alot and thanks for the content.I’ve always wondered what it’d be like for a foriegner to review our food from their point of perspective and now here you are and its gonna be lit.So good luck and safe journey to srilanka , i am welcoming you to srilanka.and Listen just hit me up if you got anything to ask,i am leaving my mail so u know ,would love to help .See you soon.

  131. Hi Trevor James,
I am a food explorer with a cooking show on youtube called THE MINORITY TASTE. My goal is to make Srilankan food world famous and for it to be appreciated for what it truly is with the authentic spice level. Everything that you have mentioned in your list can be done and i have foodie friends from all corners of Srilanka who would love to introduce you to our cuisine. Each cardinal direction of our country has very different styles of cooking and with distinctive different flavours. Best regards

  137. Hey Trevor so excited to hear you’re coming down to Sri Lanka. Will gladly recommend quite a few places to try out.
For a superb Street Food experience look out for Fazly’s Halal Refreshment in Colombo 02 formerly known as Burgers King, not to be confused with Burger King. They have some of the most affordable and epic tasting burgers in town, a must visit in my opinion.
Other iconic local street food can also be found at Nana’s in Galle Face. Try out their signature naan with their deviled or grilled seafood while enjoying the sea breeze and afterwards cross the street to Carnival Ice Cream for some nice dessert.
Not sure when you’d drop by but just hunt around and see if Green Path near Viharamahadevi Park is having any food festivals or an event like Eat Street where you’ll find all sorts of unique street food experiences. They have those once a month sometimes, so good chance you might run into one.
Also a place you should check out is Good Market near Racecourse Colombo 7 and as many mentioned for some fine dining and seafood head over to The Ministry of Crab and you’ll find other interesting eats around Dutch Hospital where its located at.
You’ve had Indian food before of course but in Sri Lanka “saivar kades” – shops that have Indian cuisine are very popular. Sometime they may not be the most hygienic but it’s a must try. I would recommend Shanmugas in Colombo 6 for an all round clean and tasty experience. Try out the ulundu vadai, paripipu vadai, dosai, idli and their signature curry known ans sambarr.
If your heading down Galle and are visiting Galle Fort, be sure to visit Peddlers Inn Cafe and try out some great ice cream at Isle Of Gelato.
Also you’ll find some food trucks on Marine Drive. Look out for one called “Street Burger”
Also to get an all Sri Lankan food experience I would say headover to Upali’s Colombo 7. You’ll find a lot of traditional dishes here served there and its as authentic as it’ll get.
Some other dishes you may want to try which you may find at Upali’s are polos curry (jack fruit curry, very tasty), pol sambol )made with shredded coconut and chilli powder, lime, it’s a SL staple. Try out seeni sambol, ambul thiyal (a sort of sour fish dish famous in the rural areas and also popular all around) and kadala parippu curry (the larger dahl seed curry-one of my favorites)
I’m sure you’ve heard already, but a reliable place for information on Sri Lankan culture and food places specifically is yamu.lk
Well I sincerely that’ll help you out and provide some inspiration. Really hope you guys enjoy your time here 🙂 and I can’t wait to see you guys happily munching down and rating some humble Sri Lankan cuisine. If you get the time, would love to see you have a small fan gathering to see you guys in person.
    Cheers!

  144. 你好Trevor,

I just got back from an epic trip in Sri Lanka! I am a huge foodie and discovered some of the most local and ‘aunties’ cooking food joints.’ The first one is a Buddhist vegan heaven that breaks the roof in terms of spice. It in a very local area of Colombo. You can choose your type of village rice (red/ special brown/ or a different nutritious rice), the BEST dahl, up to 3 vegan curries, and poppadoms. You can eat in the bakery with locals. The whole meal is less than $1. This is the most spicy and healthy food i found on the island. I believe the name was’Vegetarian Bakery’, however i dont think is on Google. I can share you the location on Wechat or something like that if you like.
The 2nd pace is deep in the heart the Sri Lankan mountains, in a rural village which is located at the beginning of a spiritual pilgrimage up 5200 steps. The meal is given to pilgrims before they start their journey. It is HUGE, and i watched the auntie make it by hand round the back of a small cafe/house. It is called pittu: purple rice, fresh coconut, chilli sambaal (fresh coconut with chilli and lime). I watched the auntie grind the coconut by hand, then bash it up in a big pestle and mortar. She served this huge mound of warming purple coconut rice with handmade coconut rotis.

I have posted about my food experiences on Instagram, and will be more than happy to share the photos with you. Feel free to contact me for more specific information!! I hope you have an awesome time in Sri Lanka. I have contacts of some foodies in Sri Lanka who i met out there, and even a chef.

    Excited for your videos,

    Stefan

ps: it is my first year of studying China at university, and seeing your videos makes me VERY excited to travel over there and 吃饭!

  169. Hey Trevor and Ting! I’ve been following your videos for a long time and i love to see you explore and try new foods. I just recently came home from a trip from Sri Lanka with my dad, and we have some great food all around. But if i should mention one place that was really good and well done, it should be the restaurant called “Beach Wadiya” in the capital Colombo. Our driver told us that its a place where ministers often eat, because of the great quality, beach views, and fantastic food & service. Its not expensive or high end, just great seafood, where they present you todays caught fish, and you can choose. 10/10 best meal i had down there. Hope you have a great trip

Best regards, Peter Kjær Andersen, Denmark.

  181. Hey ,you should visit MINISTRY OF CRAB in Colombo. It’s a must visit and you’ll sure enjoy there. Seafood is there speciality.

  182. Hey Trevor. Hope all well. I don’t really know much about Sri Lanka but what I do know is that their sea food is amazing. Once you’re there, you MUST try the huge mud crabs, they’re awesome. Make sure you try the polroti there too. These were my two favorite things to eat in Sri Lanka.

      1. In total agreement with Indrepreet… must try for the variety of flavors. A hard try for reservations, but a definite ease for Trev…
if not, head North to NEGOMBO or further North to Jaffna for some of the best seafood. Best recommendation, ‘Sri Lankan’ Singapore Chilli crab. OR if and when in Jaffna, the Jaffna black curry.
Head farrrr south for some of the finer sweets, one of my family’s fav, Kalu Dodol (cooked down sweet treacle with cadjnuts and other spice blends.. a definite must have)
Finally, if you think you had great curd in India, try our far south MeeKiri (Buffalo milk) with some superbbbb kithul treacle (don’t be fooled with coconut treacle).

Then there are the TYPICAL LOCAL FAVS…. hoppers, kotthu (rotti style, string hopper style, pittu style….) check out Kottulabs.lk for a choice of your making.

The list is endless, but hope this gives you a glance at the variety available. Have an enjoyable time, and hope to see you logging around Colombo town and have a meet and greet. A great fan.

Welcome to both of you and Ayubowan!!

          1. Great to see another food lover visiting Sri Lanka…. if you ever want to stop by my town, half an hour south of Colombo city, I’ll cook you another islander dish from my other home land, the Marshall Islands.
            Islander BBQ!!!

  183. You gotta try kothu roti (shredded roti, lamb meat, onions, gravy, eggs). It’s a common street food. Make sure you try it with fresh coconut to drink. Also mutton rolls (which are pretty much spring rolls that are deep fried with lamb meat and potatoes as a filling). Enjoy. Also try all the fruits, rare fruits you won’t find any where else in the world. Sri Lanka is known for its tea as well. Make sure you bring some back for your friends and family at home 🙂

      1. I would simply recommend Galle Face it’s filled with street food stalls and yummy! Mouthwatering Roti Shops that sell perfectly cooked well known “Ceylon Parrota”and a side of buttery chicken curry and some Kottu Roti I would prefer the extra cheese option because its worth it
